The Short Version

This site sets no cookies at all: no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and nothing that follows you to other websites. We do run one cookieless statistics tool, described below, and you can switch it off.

What the Site Needs to Work

Your browser and our web host exchange basic technical information so the pages load safely. That isn't used to identify you or build a profile.

Visitor Statistics (SiteBehaviour)

We use SiteBehaviour to learn how the site is used, for example which pages get read, how far down people scroll and what they tap or click, so we can make it clearer. It can show us heatmaps and anonymised replays of visits, with anything typed into form fields hidden. Here's how it's set up on this site:

  • No cookies, and no ID stored permanently in your browser.
  • A short-lived session reference is kept in your browser's session storage while the tab is open, so the pages of a single visit can be grouped together. It disappears when you close the tab.
  • Visits are counted using a one-way code worked out from general browser details, such as screen size and browser type. The code changes every 24 hours, so you can't be recognised from one day to the next.
  • The results are only ever statistics about how this website performs. They're never used for advertising or to work out who you are.

UK rules allow this kind of statistics tool without asking first, as long as it's explained clearly and is easy to refuse.

How to Switch It Off

Use the Analytics Settings link at the bottom of every page. Your browser will then keep a single setting called "consent-analytics", and SiteBehaviour won't load for you on this site. You can turn it back on with the same link, or by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Third-Party Content

We don't embed social media feeds, video players or adverts, so no other company can set cookies through this website.
