About us
Started on the Groundwork Gangs
Mark Ellison, who started Block Paving Milton Keynes, learned the trade the hard way, digging footings and drives on building sites across the city. Over the years he saw the same thing again and again: block paving laid straight onto a few centimetres of rubble, edges with nothing holding them, and falls that sent rainwater straight at the front door. Those drives looked smart on handover day. A couple of winters later they'd dipped under the car wheels, opened up at the edges and turned green.
When Mark started laying drives under his own name, he decided to do the opposite. Every job starts below ground. We dig out to the right depth for the soil, which across most of Milton Keynes means clay. We compact the sub-base in layers, set the edges in concrete, and work out where every drop of water will go before a single block is laid. It takes longer, and it costs a little more than the cheapest quote you'll get. But it's why the drives we lay stay flat.

How We Price and Plan
We think you should be able to see what you're paying for. That's why our quotes are itemised: excavation and muck-away, sub-base, edging, drainage, blocks and laying, each with its own line. It makes it easy to compare quotes properly. You can see whether another firm has allowed for a proper dig-out or quietly left it out.
We'll also tell you when something isn't worth doing. If a sunken drive can be fixed by relaying one section, we won't sell you a new one. If an old drive is too far gone to repair, we'll explain why. And if we find something unexpected once the digging starts, like an old soakaway, a buried tree stump or soft ground, we stop and talk to you before we do anything extra.
